Megawatt Acquires Potentia and Names Army Veteran Robert Luft as Chief Strategy Officer
Luft, a 16-year Army veteran and longtime Bitcoin educator, will lead client onboarding and public-policy as Megawatt strengthens its long-term Bitcoin strategy.
INDIANAPOLIS, July 13, 2026. Megawatt, a wholly-owned, vertically integrated Bitcoin mining company, today announced its acquisition of Potentia, a Bitcoin mining and education company, and the appointment of Potentia founder as Chief Strategy Officer.

The acquisition reflects Megawatt's long-term commitment to Bitcoin. While others expand into adjacent businesses, Megawatt believes the long-term opportunity remains building world-class Bitcoin infrastructure and helping more people participate in it. Through Robert, the company is investing in two priorities it believes will help support Bitcoin's next phase of growth: bringing the next wave of owners into Bitcoin and advancing the public policy that allows mining to operate and expand responsibly.

Luft began building companies in 2016, when he launched SureFire Innovations, and was later named to the Cincinnati Business Courier's Forty Under 40. He went on to found Potentia, where he became known for working with global regulators, translating a complex industry into plain language, and helping newcomers understand how Bitcoin works.
As Chief Strategy Officer, Luft will lead Megawatt's client onboarding and education initiatives while helping shape the company's public-policy strategy. Megawatt serves both individual and enterprise clients, with particular emphasis on first-time Bitcoin owners, offering infrastructure ownership and tax-advantaged passive income through hosted mining. Drawing on his experience helping newcomers understand Bitcoin, Luft will help guide clients through their ownership journey.
His appointment also advances Megawatt's policy strategy. Megawatt was an active supporter of Indiana House Bill 1042, the "Bitcoin Bill of Rights" enacted in 2026, which shields Bitcoin miners and users from discriminatory taxes and from special zoning and operational restrictions. Luft, who has testified before the U.S. Congress on issues affecting small businesses and entrepreneurs, is expected to extend that work, including support for efforts to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve in the state.
